We Can Do This
The United States is the “top carbon emitter in history” and a study published in the journal Nature has caused 10 trillion dollars in climate damage since 1990, causing damage both to itself and other countries.
Of course the current US administration is totally in the pockets of the fossil fuel industry and is so perverse in its values that it paid one billion dollars to a French company, TotalEnergies, to kill offshore wind projects in the US and instead invest in fossil fuel projects.
Yet this country has been moving steadily toward non-fossil fuels; from Climate Central:
KEY FACTS
· The U.S. generated record levels of electricity from solar and wind in 2025 — enough to power the equivalent of more than 79 million average U.S. homes.
· This is more than triple the amount generated a decade ago, in 2016.
· Together, solar and wind accounted for a record 19% of total U.S. electricity generation in 2025.
· The costs of electricity from solar and wind have decreased rapidly since 2010, and solar continues to be the fastest-growing source of electricity in the U.S.
· The U.S. clean energy transition faces new headwinds. But expanding clean, affordable electricity from solar and wind will be key to meeting rising energy demands while reducing heat-trapping pollution.
And this is not limited to blue states:
We have to clean up our mess. We can do this. We have been doing this!
The midterms are coming. Voting is heroic. Volunteering and demonstrating is heroic. Help get others to vote out the climate deniers. This is not a left/right, blue/red issue. It is greed vs. survival.
